A very successful architect in the National arena, Chueca Goitia was one of the professionals most involved in the field of architecture and art history of the last century.
Mr Fernando Chueca Goitia gained his degree in Technical Architecture from the School of Architecture of Madrid in 1936. His professional life was linked to both the promotion and teaching of Art and Architecture and the development of a large number of outstanding architectural projects.
He took several positions of great importance in the National and International arena.
Amongst them, one should point out that we was Secretary Conservator of the Museum of Architecture, Architect responsible for the Defence of National Heritage, Professor of History of Urbanism at the �Instituto de Estudios de la Administración local� and at the �Instituto de Estudios Políticos�, Director of the National Museum of Modern Art , Member of the Board in charge of Measuring, Certifying and Exporting Art Works with historical and artistic relevance, Member of the Academy of Arts and History of Toledo, Chief Architect of Monuments of the National Commission of National Heritage and Artistic Archives and Museums and Member of the advisory council of Monuments. He belonged to the body of councillors of the National Heritage ( Royal house) as Art Works councillor.
Among his most important architectural projects one can find:
- Between 1950-1993 the Cathedral of Our Lady Of Almudena, Madrid.
- Between 1953-1958 the enlargement of the Museum of El Prado, Madrid.
- 1961-1962 The restoration works of the Church of San Cayetano, Madrid
- 1965-1967 Pueblo Español & Congress Palace Palma
- 1974-1975 The bank of Santander, Santander.
- 1980-1981 The townhall of Tarazona.
He was awarded the following prizes during his professional life:
- 1940 First prize of the Royal Academy of Art Works of San Fernando.
- 1943 Extraordinary prize in the National Contest of Architecture. Project for finishing the Cathedral of Valladolid.
- 1944 National Prize of Architecture . Project of finishing the Cathedral of our lady of Almudena.
- 1958 First Prize Contest for the new planning of Industrial Area of Astrabud�a in Bilbao.
- 1962 First prize Contest for reorganising the Catholic Kings Avenue in Madrid.
- 1991 IV Prize for Architecture Antonio Camaruñas
- 1996 Diploma to the Merit in Architecture by the Organisation Fernando el Católico
- 1997 Honour Medal of the International University Menéndez Pelayo of Santander
- 1998 Gold Medal of the Architecture
- 2002 National Prize of History of Spain.
